Day 5 – WESTMAN ISLANDS
You’ve never been to Iceland if you haven’t visited the Westman Islands, located off the south coast of Iceland. This 15 island archipelago is off the beaten path and usually not included in a tour to Iceland. Today our local guide “Palli” takes us through a lava field created during the 1973 volcano eruption that is still warm in some places. The biggest island, Heimaey, is the only permanently inhabited one and is currently home to some 4300 people. Visit Eldheimar Volcano Museum, an interactive exhibition that tells the story of the 1973 eruption. Lunch at Canton Restaurant; a different cuisine, a great experience. Visit Brothers Brewery a great craft brewery recently opened.
Tonight have a New Year’s Eve dinner at Einsi Kaldi restaurant in the hotel. Join the local islanders at a major bonfire and spectacular fireworks display at midnight – one of the biggest in Iceland. Perhaps we will be lucky and also get the Northern Lights this evening.

Day 6 WESTMAN ISLANDS
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast. Visit Lyngfell Horse Stables, to learn about the Icelandic horse. The history of these horses extends to the times of the Vikings. Some of you may wish to take a short, guided ride on the beach and along the trails weather permitting. Enjoy the day in Iceland with a special meal at lunchtime. Today’s lunch will be a leg of lamb which is in Iceland considered a delicacy.
Our last dinner at Einsi Kaldi is open to the general public. Hopefully we will have a cloudless night with a clear sky and get to see the Northern Lights.
